Petra Hartl was born in Vienna.
She trained as a cellist at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the University Mozarteum Salzburg. She obtained her diploma with distinction and was also awarded the honorary prize of the Republic of Austria.
From 2002 to 2006 she worked as a music teacher at Korneuburg music school.
In 2003 she founded the dialect singing duo Zimt & Zauber with Michael Radanovics. Petra Hartl was trained as a chamber musician at the Alban Berg Quartet’s college in a series of seminars and was for many years a member of the Joseph Haydn Quartett Wien.
She has been with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1987.
