Friedmar Deller was born near Frankfurt am Main in Germany in 1989.
He received his first double bass lessons aged eight. His enthusiasm for this instrument was later aroused by the Landesjugendsinfonieorchester Hessen. Soon afterwards he began training as a school-age student with Prof. Günter Klaus and later Prof. Christoph Schmidt at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Following on from this he began a university degree course with Prof. Christoph Schmidt in Frankfurt, graduating in 2013 with a “very good”. Since 2015 he has been studying historical bass with Prof. Denton Roberts in Graz.
Besides several master classes with the likes of Duncan McTier and Janne Saksalar, he also took lessons with Prof. Alois Posch during a year as an Erasmus student in Vienna.
Friedmar Deller was a member of the European Youth Orchestra and has been a double bassist with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2013.
