Bhoiravi Achenbach

1st violin

Bhoiravi Achenbach was born in Vienna into a family of musicians.
She began her violin studies at the University of Music in Graz/Oberschützen in the class of Regina Brandtstätter. In autumn 2000, she transferred as a highly gifted young student to the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna to study with Prof. Eugenia Polatschek. From 2007 to 2010, she studied with the renowned violin pedagogue Prof. Igor Ozim at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, continuing her studies from 2010 with Prof. Klara Flieder. She completed both her Bachelor’s degree in violin performance (2013) and her subsequent Master’s degree (2015) with distinction.

Immediately after completing her Master’s studies, she was awarded annual contracts with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. In October 2022, she successfully auditioned for a position with the Vienna Philharmonic’s pool of musicians performing at the Vienna State Opera. Since 2021, she has appeared regularly with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Wien), where she became a permanent member in July 2025.

In 2017, she founded the Acria Duo together with pianist Luca Lavuri. The duo completed a chamber music degree at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna with distinction in 2019, and they were already among the prizewinners of the Fidelio Competition in 2018.

In addition, Bhoiravi Achenbach regularly performs with other renowned orchestras, including the Nordic Symphony Orchestra (Estonia), the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (Norway), the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra, and the Synchron Stage Orchestra, where she pursues her special passion for film music.

Concert tours with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, RSO Wien, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Baroque Ensemble of the Vienna Symphony, the Vienna Concert-Verein, and other ensembles have taken her across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Bhoiravi Achenbach has participated in masterclasses with distinguished musicians such as Eugenia Polatschek, Rainer Kussmaul, Igor Ozim, Klara Flieder, and Christian Altenburger. As a chamber music partner, she has performed with artists including Rudolf Leopold and Klara Flieder.

Already as a young student, she appeared several times as a soloist, performing with the Janáček Philharmonic, the Mödling Symphony Orchestra, and the Bregenz Music Society. Her solo repertoire includes works such as the Violin Concerto by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the Violin Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns, Aram Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto (performed in Lviv), and Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G major.

Particular highlights of her solo career have included performances for world-famous singer Roberta Flack, multiple Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, and former president Mikhail Gorbachev.
