Katharina Steininger was born in 1995 in Vienna and grew up in Burgenland. She began studying the cello at the age of four and soon discovered her passion for music.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree with Lilia Schulz-Bayrova at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna, and continued her studies in the Master’s program with Bruno Weinmeister at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Katharina has gained extensive orchestral experience performing with the Jeunesse Orchestra Vienna, the Haydn Philharmonie, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, where she first appeared as a substitute and later held a temporary contract. She was also a member of the Academy of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Vienna).
Chamber music plays an important role in her artistic life. She has appeared in various ensembles at numerous concerts in Austria and abroad and continues to pursue this work with great enthusiasm.
Since 2019, Katharina has served as principal cellist of the Synchron Stage Vienna, contributing as a studio musician to a wide range of national and international productions.
In 2024, she joined the cello section of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Vienna) as a permanent member.
