In the Vienna RSO, one timpanist and four percussionists have thousands of percussion instruments at their fingertips. No other group of instruments is so diverse, or presents such an array of sounds, as percussion in new music: from the timpani to the rattle, from the xylophone to the castanets, from the bongos to the gong — with percussion, there is a whole world to discover. Starting this autumn, our “feel the beat” workshop offers the chance to gain a feel for rhythm and different sounds on a huge range of percussion instruments with the RSO percussion professionals. No previous musical knowledge necessary! Those who think they can’t sing a note, let alone play an instrument, will soon overcome any inhibitions! my RSO doesn’t bang its own drum — it bangs everything that makes a noise!
