On the occasion of the anniversary of "25 years RKH" the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Elim Chan invite you to Rachmaninov's "Symphonic Dances".
The audience is awaited by a huge orchestra on this evening: The usual triple woodwinds are joined by a greatly expanded percussion section, a harp, a piano and a saxophone. Rachmaninov quotes a lot of his own compositions in this work: his first symphony, "The Isle of the Dead," "The Bells," "The Vesper Mass," and the "Dies Irae," among others, can be heard. Although Rachmaninov later discarded the originally intended movement titles "Noon," "Sunset" and "Midnight," they nevertheless reflect well the darkening mood in this last work of the composer. The baton this evening is held by Elim Chan, internationally successful and sought-after principal conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
The concert is fully booked, but the ORF RadioKulturhaus streams live on their website: https://radiokulturhaus.orf.at/
