Chika Hayase was born in 1995 in Kyoto, Japan, and began violin lessons at the age of three. From 2010 to 2013, she studied with Riko Murase at the Kyoto Municipal Horikawa Senior High School of Music.
She then completed her bachelor’s degree at the Kyoto City University of Arts under Professor Kyoko Shikata.
In 2017, she moved to Vienna to continue her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Professor Edward Zienkowski. She graduated with distinction from the diploma program in solo performance in the winter of 2021.
In 2018, she won the 1st “Absolute” Prize and the Morena Mazzilli Prize at the 20th Euterpe International Competition in Corato, Italy. In 2019, she reached the semifinals of the 3rd Oleh Krysa International Violin Competition in Lviv, Ukraine. That same year, she also received the “Mayor’s Award of Kyoto City” at the 33rd Kyoto Art Festival.
She regularly participated in the orchestra and opera projects of the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic.
In 2022, Chika Hayase joined the Orchestra Academy of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and since 2025 she has been a permanent member of the orchestra.
